Gary Wheelock

Gary Wheelock, is a retired professional baseball player and coach with 35 plus years experience. Gary was a former Major League pitcher for the California Angels (1977) and Seattle Mariners(1977, 1980)
Gary was a standout pitcher and hitter for the University of California, Irvine, from 1972-1974. While there he led the nation in wins in 1974 (17-2) and was a college All-American.
After a successful college career Gary became the first player ever signed by the Seattle Mariners, selected in the 1st round of the expansion draft in 1976. Gary immediately put up stellar numbers leading the PCL (AAA) in wins and strikeouts in 1976.
As a coach Gary has coached for several professional organizations: the LA Dodgers (AA), Texas Rangers (AAA) and Seattle Mariners for 34 years including being the Minor League pitching co-ordinator for four seasons.
Currently, Gary acts as the under 18 Baseball New Zealand pitching coach while also assisting with Wellington Baseball Academy. He is a a huge asset for both Wellington and the New Zealand baseball community by providing professional instruction and techniques that have been taught at the highest levels.
